Rothay Manor, an elegant Regency house built in 1825 as a private residence, stands in its own grounds a quarter mile from the head of Lake Windermere. The drawing rooms and candlelit dining room still retain the relaxed atmosphere of a private house, and the Nixon family have run the hotel for over 25 years.
Dinner tableCare consideration and comfort are evident throughout. The menu is varied and meals are prepared and served with flair and imagination to the highest of standards, complemented by a comprehensive wine list. Two bedrooms have been specially adapted for use by disabled persons, and family suites are available.
Residents have free use of a nearby Leisure Centre, with swimming pool, sauna, steam room & jacuzzi, and free fishing permits are also available.

During the winter months, there is a full programme of events, which include special French regional dinners, courses such as Silver & Antiques, Painting, Gardening and Music Appreciation, as well as a spring Walking Holiday.

William Wordsworth described the Lake District as “the loveliest spot that man has ever known”, and it is still difficult to disagree with those sentiments. The area was the first in Britain to be recognised as a National Park, and contains England’s highest mountains and some of its most picturesque lakes, villages and valleys.
