Smile White Platts at last open on Sundays!

After 70 years, White Platts recreation ground at last opens on a Sunday.

Subject to a covenant which donated the land on condition that it was closed on Sundays to avoid disturbing worship in nearby St Mary’s Church, the recreation ground has never before opened on Sundays.

It had for years been assumed that the Diocese of Carlisle arranged the covenant. but after several attempts to get the Diocese to lift the covenant, it was discovered last year that it was nothing to do with the Church at all, rather the Kelsick Trust had made the condition when it released the land to the local council over 70 years ago.

Once the present Kelsick governors realised this, after intervention by the Parish Council, Kelsick were happy to lift the covenant at request of SLDC, who operate the recreation centre.

Anyone for tennis?
