Planning & Development

Planning

Courtesy of Lakes Parish Council a rota of committee members continues to inspect all local Planning Applications and, where necessary, make comments or recommendations or lodge formal objections with the Lake District National Park Authority. We know that they value our input.

Amongst planning applications reviewed and commented on at length have been those for developments at Brow Head, the refurbishment of St Mary’s Church, and the renovation of Mill Cottage on Rydal Road. Copies of the comments are available for members from the Honorary Secretary.

The committee has also felt strongly for some time that system in place for refuse collection in sensitive areas such as Fairview Road is inadequate and certainly does not enhance what should remain one of the most traditional and attractive areas of the town. They feel that a better system should be researched as a matter of urgency.

Development

The trust has been represented by Trust Chairman Tim Brown and former chairman Bryan Sparrow on the Waterhead Development steering group and the Trust continues to monitor progress. Prior to the June committee meeting Graham Atherton from the consultants currently working on the plan gave a presentation on the plans and answered numerous questions from the committee.

The Chairman has joined the Brockhole Redevelopment Programme Steering Group and continues to put forward the Trust’s views vigorously!

The committee responded at length to the LDNPA’s Local Development Framework document “Core Strategy Preferred Options”, and supported strongly the circulated views of Friends of the Lake District.
