In present day Stock Ghyll Park, the remains of a dam recall the days of water power. At this point a mill race began which powered the wheels of the Horrax Bobbin Mill, now holiday apartments. The above picture is of the wheel at the bark mill adjacent to North Road bridge, where a replica wheel now stands, powered by electricity as the race for this mill, which ran below the bridge, has long disappeared. There were more mills lower down and opposite, with a further dam which has recently been rebuilt to power the restored wheel at the Glass House restaurant beyond the Bridge House
